A very silly question I am sorry
What is a cockerals role in life,?

If I get some chickens,, I have heard some of you say a chicken goes broody, do they have to be with a cock to fertilise the eggs, or do chickens lay be in the mood for chicks and sit on them.

I know it is a silly question but not one book i have have said a cock has to be involved, I did do sex ed at school but well just talk to me like i am five years old.
