The placenta is supposed to hold oxytocin which is supposed to encourage milk, and prostaglandin helps the uterus to contract back to normal size.
If the cat wants to eat it I allow her to eat it. Cats don't always know best, but in this case I think they do, so with respect, I disagree with removing placentas if a mum is showing interest in eating them.

Perhaps our difference in opinion comes with our different breeds.
