Re: sad update on dog getting bitten

Sincere sympathy to your sister on the tragic loss of her little dog. I can only imagine how I would feel if this happened to me.

My late Deerhound Weyland was devoted to a little black Pug Roane. Roane died at home and Weyland was able to see her body but he still grieved for many months afterwards. He had Roane's daughter Arwen and a rescue Rotti x Staffi as companions but Roane was special to him and his grief was painful to see. Hopefully your sister and her remaining dog will draw comfort from each other.

As for the stupid dog warden he should join the ranks of the unemployed as soon as possible. This incident can't be called a dog fight. It was definately an attack. I don't know what the laws are like in your area but in most parts of Australia it is an offence for a dog to "rush, worry or attack" a person or other animal. In a case like this the dog's owners can be prosecuted by the local council and they are then fined, compelled to pay veterinary costs and the animal is then declared a "dangerous dog". A "dangerous dog" must be on a lead at all times when off the owner's property and must be housed in a properly constructed dog enclosure when at home. Some magistrates also say the dog must be muzzled when walked and others simply order the destruction of the animal.

Give your sister hugs from me. So very sad.
