It certainly would be a good idea to shut him away at night, and perhaps when you arent there. This will minimise the damage, as when he is out you will be there to supervise him. You could always get a dog crate, as some indoor cages are rather small for the price you pay.
What sorts of toys and things to wreck does he have?
