Re: Stray dogs

Well, yeah. There are quite a few organizations here that do the castration and sterilization of the stray dogs. And many private individuals go around and feel all the dogs. But it is like a drop of water on a hot plate. And all depends on foreign funds, because either the locals do not care (they even make fun of the few individuals that go around and feed the dogs) or are not in a position to help.
There are also a lot of dogs that aren't exactly stray dogs, they do have an owner. But they run around on the streets just like stray dogs. And often the owners do not want to castrate these dogs, because they worry that it will cost them money. It takes a lot of explaining and convincing to get the owners to castrate their dogs.

You have seen it on TV? Have you also seen the program that in Bangkok they are training the stray dogs to work for the police, sniffing for drugs? That is really funny, but at least a (small) solution...

Last year, the King asked the Police and Department of Parks and Wildlife to employ some strays. The police have since taught 25 former street dogs to detect drugs. Another 25 flunked their final sniffing exam after a 20-week training programme. They are back in school.
