hiya guys, sorry this is long..............
i am a mum to 4 children, and 4 rescue dogs - and this is what happened last friday.
i went to walk my dogs on the local meadow, and as i entered it i saw a neighbours dog off lead by the gate. both neighbours were there with it.
have seen the dog loads of times, and know it to be a bit of a BIG scaredy cat - normally runs away on sight of my 4 (think its a great dane X, lurcher type, altho others reckon its rhodesian ridgeback - but either way, its big, lol).
so i thought i would walk past keeping my dogs on leads with the intention of letting mine off further up. we were too close to the gate anyways, and theres a busy road nearby so i always walk on a little.
i smiled and said hi to my neighbours, and one of my dogs barked - so i turned
to tell her she was being silly and to stop it - when my neighbours dog suddenly charged at us! i THINK it was going to bite my lurcher boy who was on my right side - but

missed, and before i knew it i realised i was bleeding. the scariest thing is - i cant say 100% that it was their dog that bit me - i mean, i was bitten before i had the chance to turn, and my lurcher rests his head on my right thigh - what if he was trying to have a go at the other dog who was jumping all over us? my lurcher has never shown a hint of aggression - not so much as a grumble or a raised lip - but he was rescued less than a year ago and i dont know his history either. i dont doubt he is a lovely sweet boy, and if it was him, he was trying to protect me, and he's terribly clumsy!
my oh says it couldnt have been him, and must have been our neighbours dog who incidentally were mortified at the whole thing and said they will now walk their dog muzzled - even tho, for him it was also a 'first offence' and he's never done anything like this before.
hospital visit, tetanus jab, clean up and dressing later and i'm exhausted - and just feel so sad
i am a HUGE dog lover - and have worked with animals and owned dogs for many years - i just feel so confused, and my confidence is really knocked - and now of course my dogs are sensing that the top dog has the collwobbles and no one feels very safe
thanks for your thoughts xxx
