I have used them and they aer brilliant however not all rabbits will be confident enough to got hrough the flap door.
I would start by taking the flap door of and getting him used to it that way and if you want then put it back on and encorage him to use it by playing with him.
Definitely less mess and much more hygenic in my opinion.
