Id personally delay one or the other.

Bringing a new dog into your home is traumatic enough for both parties, it can only be made worse by having a dog recovering from surgery.

The last thing your current dog will want is a newbie invading his patch when he's sore and groggy. You also need to keep him quiet and calm, are you going to be able to with another dog in the house?
