When I had Sky I would take her out early in the morning and take her out whenever she started sniff, had eaten/drank or had been playing inside the house. Then I took her out one last time in the night.

I also got a spray from Pets at Home which is meant to stop them from going in the same place. It seems to be working

I don't use a crate myself, but I know that many owners here do x
