i know a lot don't believe in this but at 6wks they should be on solids & not feeding off the mother

I know this is slightly off topic, but think it may be useful. The reason why 7/8 weeks is better and 6 weeks is too young has nothing to do with weaning and feeding off the mother, but more to do with the socialisation within the litter, learning bite inhibition and learning canine behaviour from its littermates. This is why it is even more important and 8 weeks would be recommended when the puppy is going to a home where there are no other dogs. HTH
