We arent using a crate. I think that is rather taboo isnt it, we were strongly advised to and all the books advise it. We just didnt want to, for several reasons.

He was trying to sort himself out outside to do potty and he saw my husbands shadow in the house, the light was out and he went on major guard dog duty. I got him to stop barking with a sharp NO but then he was patrolling the garden, then racing back to me, sitting down right in front of me (facing the house where he saw the shadow) growling. After ages of this I gave up and took him inside, he promptly did a poo on my bedroom floor. I took him back outside to the area, sat myself down on the edge of my son's trampoline, and he jumped up on it behind me and sat with his back pressed against mine (facing the house again) and growled. Bless him he is totally obsessed with me and obviously very protective but clearly it isnt what I want at midnight when I just want him to wee so I can go to bed!

I do appreciate his devotion though, it amazes me that he knew straight away he was mine. I dont understand it.
