It does get better- I promise! :0
When Dixie was a pup, she was terrible!
I think I started off doing it wrong.
Anyway, I started to take her just outside the back door (there was the path then grass) every 20 mins. If she didn't pee I put her back in her crate for 10 mins, then back out again. if she did pee she got to stay out the crate then back out after 20 mins.
Its much easier having the pup on the lead, as they aren't able to mess about and play. And you don't have to follow them about the garden waiting for them to pee!
Imeediately after sleep is a great time because no doubt the pup will have to pee- so just stay out until he does then give Heaps of reward!
Ignore completely any mess in the house (unless, like rainy said- you catch him doing it, then 'ah-ah' and take him out), just clean it up.
He will soon cotton on that you Love when he pees outside and will want to do it more.
Keep an eye on hos body language, and if he sniffs about or circles, take him out. My pup actually whines when he needs out, and my dog barks and jumps up the door if she is desperate (I taught her that).
