Your post has brought tears to my eyes Ian. I'm so sorry for poor Sammy but I think you are making absolutely the right decision to leave your lovely cat enjoy his last few weeks of peace and pampering instead of subjecting him to the suffering of an operation which may or may not leave him any better off. My thoughts are with you ((())) and wish you strength to make the decision when you know it is time.
The thought of him sleeping under the tree is lovely. My two (Josh-cat aged 13 and little Lei Lou hit by a car aged 10months) sleep on the sunny bank outside my kitchen window.
