I have had chihuahuas since I was 3 years old I'm 28 now lol. My folks still have 2, and I would have one now if I could afford the massive purchase price! Smooth or logcoated they do shed all year round, and do have a moult as the seasons change when its slightly more noticable. I'm not sure I agree with the premise that chihuahuas get sicker easier, My parents chi's are 13 & 14. They lost another 13yr old in march and the dogs previously to that have ranged from 13 - 17 when they have passed away.

One thing that will be different is the level of grooming required from smooth coat chi the least to a pom the most, with the longcoat falling in between.

They are very different breeds (well i think so), and neither should every be used as fashion accessories or handbad pups. They are BIG dogs with BIG personalities in tiny bodies. They require good training and discipline, good socialisation and firm boundaries. Provide that and you will have a happy well rounded dog
