Re: Anything i can use on my cats skin?

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about Foxy's accident, but I'm glad he's made it through the worst

I think helping the skin from the inside would be the best to do (I don't know if there's any creams or such you can put directly on the skin, I'm sure someone else here will be able to help though!). There's two ways I know of that will help keep Foxy's skin hydrated: 1. Feed wet food only and 2. Supplement the food with Fish Body Oil - NB! Not Cod Liver oil. Zooplus sells Salmopet oil, which is good for this.

These two things should help keep the skin in better condition and hopefully less painful for him.

I found some more information on the Salmopet oil which may be of interest:

Pure Salmopet Norwegian salmon oil for dogs and cats, from 100% fresh Norwegian salmon. For healthy skin, shiny fur, and maximum health, as a daily dietary supplement

Salmopet Salmon Oil is made from 100% fresh salmon from the fjords of Ryfylke, Norway and offers singularly high quality in contents, taste and smell. The high content of astaxantine (a pigment gained from prawns) gives it its orange color and high anti-oxidative qualities.

Salmopet Salmon Oil contains multiple unsaturated omega-3 fatty acids, important for a variety of physiological processes in dogs and cats. These fatty acids are of vital importance for optimal development, maintenance, and functions of various tissues and organs, especially:
  • cell membranes
  • brain
  • skin and coat
  • kidneys
  • blood vessels
  • immune system
  • precurring substances for hormones and transmitters
  • eyes(retina)

In a normal diet, these omega-3 fatty acids are often not present in a sufficient amount. Furthermore, numerous physiological and pathological conditions raise the need for omega-3 fatty acids. The regular dietary addition of salmon oil has proved beneficial in the following circumstances as well:
  • infections
  • wound healing
  • post-operative stress
  • skin conditions (eczema, dandruff, excessive hair loss
  • allergies
  • immune related conditions and stress
  • heart conditions
  • geriatric conditions

Salmopet Salmon Oil also contains arachidonic acid which is essential for cats and not contained in vegetable oils. This too has proven beneficial for coat and skin problems.

Salmopet pure salmon oil as a daily dietary supplement for all dogs and cats improves health and fitness, gives fur extraordinary gloss and softness and improves the resistance of paws to injury.
