I had a look on the Bolton Dogs Home website last night, the name did strike me a little, it sounds almost victorian or something LOL
Rochdale Dog Rescue does the same thing as the lady we're currently talking to - she said if a dog comes up that's a match for us, we'd take it on as a foster but with a view to keeping it if our dog and the new dog get along, which I think is a fab idea! Our local RSPCA will only let the dogs meet up at their kennels, which I think is silly because you can't tell what they're gonna be like once you get them home - they could be fine walking around a field but all hell could break loose once a new dog enters the current dogs territory.
Again, thanks so much for all those places - it's really helpful! My parents aren't keen on travelling very far to look, but if nothing comes up then I think we might start looking further afield so like the dog's trust and stuff might come in handy - especially if they know the staff are so helpful!

ooh, and the Hyndburn rescue sounds very promising, I go through Rishton on the bus every day and I had no idea they had a rescue centre! All the dogs on there at the mo seem a little on the big side for us (my mum is looking for a Yorkie or small JRT sort of size) but i'll definately keep track of this one, you never know what's going to come up
