Usually around 5-6 months - one thing you very often notice at this age is that the kitten has double canines, i.e. the adult one has grown in before the baby one falls out! It looks quite strange but the baby ones soon fall out. I think they do often swallow them, as you rarely find any teeth lying around, and it does no harm at all. The gums can be a bit swollen and red where the new teeth are coming in, and sometimes it can cause quite a bit of pain and the kitten will claw at its mouth and face, doing quite a bit of damage. I've had a few kittens who've done this and it's awful to watch them.
