Hi,
I believe that the late Paul Starling of Ozalet Bengals was the first breeder to try to develop the ‘Serengeti’ breed back in the late 90’s. The breed was originally called the ‘Savannah’ but was changed to Serengeti due to the Savannah breed we know today already being developed in the States.
Cat World ran a double page article on the then-called Savannah cat but the breed didn’t really take off, mainly due to lack of interest. The GCCF refused to recognise any more breeds containing even a tiny percentage of wild blood after the Bengal cat gained recognition. There were a number of Serengeti cats bred to Bengals but these offspring were ‘Bengal Variants’ if registered with the GCCF. A Bengal mated to a Serengeti will be a cross-breed.
I would be interested to see a list of Serengeti breeders in the UK. I can’t seem to find any
