antibiotics or swabbing

Right sorry everyone but got another question. I have been reading up the does and don'ts of breeding and one of the things is antibiotics to stop the strep infection(I think) All stud dog owners say the bitch should be swabbed, and a few have said the alternative is to have a course of antibiotics, just in case. What is the general opinion on this? Some have they do not like their dog to go on AB for no reason and some say if they have an infection they will need ab anyway so why not skip the swab. I think it also depends on he vet so I will be speaking to my vet. But you lot know what I am like I would be on the phone all day to my with the amount of questions I have asked. I think it must be Candy keeps making me think of puppies how exciting!!!!!! Also does the dog need to be swabbed I had read that it can live on the dog for 48 hours does anyone know if this is true?
