Re: Springer mix puppy
I have recived an intresting email and everything sounds good, so it's likley bear might have a home soon;
Hi Daisy,
I have never owned a dog or puppy before - I have an older cat and my daughter keeps mice in her room. I also have an auntie who has bred Labradors and is very involved in the lab rescue and a friend who has two dogs who are amazing and she would be on hand for advice.
We live in a large house near Harpenden, Herts in plenty of land surrounded by fields and are an active, healthy family who would always take a dog to training classes to socialise them (and us!) and agility classes as a dog needs mental and physical stimulation and I totally appreciate that. We are big walkers anyway so a dog would be wonderful company on our treks.
I would insure, chip and regularly vet a dog.
I have a 10 year old and a baby who is 18 months so it is important that I know the parents have a good temperament and would ideally like to meet and spend time with the parents before committing myself to their puppy. Raya (the baby) is wonderful with my cat Jerry and loves him to bits, gives him big cuddles etc. He has had to tell her off before and she's had a couple of scratches which she takes very well and she knows now to leave him alone when he eats - that's off limits to her as I believe he should be able to enjoy his food in peace!
The only potential problem I can see with Bear which I have since discovered as I have been swatting up on his breeds is that he will shed quite a lot in the summer and my husband is quite adamant that we should have a dog which sheds as little as possible as he is very mildly asthmatic but also just hates the cat hairs so would be equally intolerant of the dogs! Saying that he does love the cat really so I am sure once he has fallen in love with the dog he will forgive the hairs and I have tried to explain to him that even he sheds...
I would ideally have liked a younger puppy too as we could have started training - does Bear attend any classes now? Is he toilet trained and has had all his jabs? Is he socialised and used to children? Would it be at all possible for my auntie who lives in Bideford to see him and his parents as she would be a far better judge than I as to his suitability in my household. Megan and I have already fallen in love with him and would have no judgement at all.
Hope this answers some of your questions - if you would like a chat then please do not hesitate to call me
Yours,
Niki
