If h is a good working dog why not try contacting some of your local field trial clubs, gundog clubs, hearing dogs for the deaf, dogs for diabled, agility clubs, flyball, obedience clubs. The organisers might know of someone caring that would just love to take him on! If they are active members of these clubs too, you have a better chance of ensuring he goes to a "working" home and that he really would achieve his full potential and be a happy healthy dog! Obviously you would need to double check his potential new home like you would any other, but at least you would be targeting the right audience?
