If he's left for 6 hrs per day a crate would probably drive it mad don't crate it!
I think that if you feel you have a significant problem you should look for some one to one help, rather than to get conflicting advice online and also make behavioural decisions based on a book or two.
Leadership is critical yes when looking at S.A., but it does not relate to the dog feeling dominant.
Most dogs I have seen with SA have not been dominant...just a bit of a wreck due to mixed signals from the owners. This is where a good one to one helper would get you back on track all over.
