One of our Bengal kittens Stan who is 7 months old and who, thankfully, wasn't sold suddenly became very quiet and wouldn't eat. We thought this was simply because he was upset at being put outside in the cattery, he'd seemed perfectly fine before we put him out.
The next day we brought him in as he clearly wasn't happy but he still wouldn't eat and only wanted to drink water. When he didn't perk up after another day we took him to the vets as we suspected something was seriously wrong....and boy was it!
The vet was unsure and X-Rays seemed to point to a blockage but they said that they needed to open him up to have a better look.
When they opened him they found that he had a ruptured bowel and blocked tubes so urine was backing up inside him. His bowel was also stuck to the lining of his stomach!?
He'd also had an abcess.
The vet still doesn't know what caused this, he had no external marks so they don't think that he fell or injured himself?
However the good news is that he had surgery on Wednesday and when we saw him yesterday evening he was a completely different cat to what he'd been before. We're, hopefully, brining him home this evening
I guess I wanted to post as a warning to others. If we'd left him another day he would almost certainly have died so it's vital to take your cats to the vet as soon as you notice a big change in behaviour.
