When my cat went to the vet when she was off her food, the vet weighed the cat carrier then put her back in it to weigh her , subtracting the weight of the carrier. If you have a scale large enough that could be worth a go, otherwise it might be worth seeing if there's a similar large scale at your vets - although my vet isn't cheap I think they let people use the scales for free.
