Hi, and welcome to the board. I am so sorry to hear about your cat. I have no direct experience with liver disease, but found these links.

I am not sure if those would be of any help, but they do seem to imply treatment is possible. I think your vets attitude was very poor, and highly insensitive. I would be tempted to get a second opinion, and maybe if your cat is insured to seek a referal to a specialist at the RVC or Animal Health Trust.
