Springers and Flyball - How successful ? Berkshire area

My nearly 6 month old Springer is nuts about tennis balls and gets hyper excited when we get his 'balls' out I've been thinking of partaking in some sort of activity with him when he is older and came across Flyballing.
My husband thinks he'd make a good beating dog - he's too yappy to be a picker upper, gets too excited, but I'd rather he did something else to be honest.

Do Springers make good flyball'ers ? He's pretty quick and his concentration on a tennis ball is all consuming for him - bless him. The majority of dogs seem to be Border Collies.

Although the main aim is for fun I'd like to think that if he was good I'd like to have a go at competitions or join a team.

We are in Berkshire (M4 J11 Reading end) and wondered if a good fun team could be recommended. I gather we can't do anything until he's about a year old.

Many thanks
