MY collie and children

Hi

Im new on this site so i hope i'll find some good advice. I have had my collie cross lab for 9 years he is now 11 years old and i am expecting my first baby! I am a little concered about introducing the two of them when baby arrives. winston (the collie) has been known to snap at me and my hubby when he is sleepy or when his space is invaded he is not really a people dog, although he can be very loving. I have had some training and have baby gates in every room of the house, I have also put dog beds both down satirs and up stairs of the house so winston can get away from busy rooms or if the baby is playing on the floor in anyone room. I dont allow win to go into the babys room either.

I am worried about the introduction when baby comes and wondered if anyone has had the same problem and has managed to live happily and keep the two of them apart? I do not want to re home my dog because i love him so much he is my best friend can anyone adivse? and is it ok to keep the seperate, and not allow the dog in the same room as baby? my dog is never going to be best buudies with the baby but at least can we all live under the same roof without the two bumping into each other is that possible?

many thanks
milly

any advice welcome
