is she an indoor or outdoot cat - did the pen have different conditions than at home - for example if she is an indoor cat did the pen have an ourdoor run? Could it be due to the dry air we have in our houses due to central heating? Just a thought and a complete stab in the dark. Does she wear a collar? I've seen cats who's hair doesn't grow under the collar at all maybe she is sensitive to that if she has one. I'm sure you've thought of this already but i'm a little stumped.
