You can get the odd over and undersized dog appear in the best bred of litters but the difference should not be too large say and inch or so either way in a breed as small as yours.
I'm fairly certain that he was registered, as the breeder showed us papers for other dogs her lines, an aspect of breeding which she said she paid meticulous attention to. I'm sure that the intention was there to send the papers, but this may have been lost in all the flurry of moving houses. I'm likely to try the KC to see what they suggest though.

As to his size.. I'm afraid he's a bit more than an inch bigger than a standard sized dog! One of the best responses I've had is that "he's two normal sized Westies welded together, a bit like cut-and-shut". He's certainly a lot larger than a lot that I've met and nearly twice the size of some of the smaller versions.

As I said in my original post, I didn't get him for any other purpose than as a pet; it would just be nice to know a little more about his background.
