I hope your mum took the cat to the vet first and it had a complete check over to see if it was in pain somewhere before it was put to sleep.Poor cat I sorry but this makes me soooo mad :mad that a cat was put to sleep because it bit someone and other cats. There is always a reason for a cat doing it you just have to spend time to find out what it is and normally you can solve it. If on the other hand there is a valid medical reason and the vet says that there isn't much they can do then that is the only time to have a cat put to sleep.
If I had my cats that I have owned over the years and cats that I have fostered put to sleep every time one bit me then there would be alot of them dead and buried rather then them being in great loving homes now.
