Hi, I do totally understand but it will get better if you persevere. When you say you use a long line do you hold the end? I used to attached a long line and just let it trail along behind mine then when you want him to come back just get close enough to stand on the end of the lead and recall. If he doesn't come back just give the lead a little pull and reward when he returns. Mine used to think he was on the lead just because he was trailing it behind him so he would take much more notice of me.

Watch he doesn't wrap it round your legs as he runs past though because it really hurts!!!
