Why are cats meant to go outside ? I have indoor cats who have access to an enclosed garden (nothing in nothing out), but they all come in to use a tray.

If she is overweight, then she won't be exercising outside either, you need to really get her playing inside with a rod toy of some sort - like a Da Bird, or maybe get her a friend she can play chasing games with as well.

Is she on a dry diet ? Dry food contains a high percentage of carbohydrates that the cat doesn't need, so it just gets changed to fat.
