I have grown up children and one teenager who have all grown up with cats and do not find the mix impossible. I just want to add though if your new cat lives to good age it will be at a difficult time for your daughter who will probably be in her late teens when inevitably the cat dies. I know not a nice thing to think about but one of my cats died in my sons arms when he was 10 (son not cat -cat was 13) and it is very hard for children to go through that. Sorry to be morbid.
On another note you mention Persians which take an awful lot of grooming so you need to think carefully about the breed you decide on. Good luck anyway

aww a similar thing happened with us.. my Mum rescued a kitten when she was pregnant with me and he lived untill he was 21.. I was heartbroken when we had to have him put to sleep!
