Re: The DLRC have started a petition
I have never been a great supporter of the KC. I have been open in criticising the current Accredited Breeder Scheme for some years as it is open to abuse and some of the worse breeders in our breed proudly claim Accredited Breeder status. For too long, the KC has put the income from registrations above the quality of the litters being bred and the ethics of those breeding them.
Having said that.........
The DLRC and any other dog registration schemes seem to me to be nothing more than an opportunity for puppy farmers and backyard breeders to appear respectable. They are a bad joke and are responsible for conning thousands of pet buyers into thinking that they are buying from responsible breeders.
The RSPCA is little better placed than the DLRC etc. They are, to my mind completely discredited as a national organisation. At local level some branches do extremely good work, but at national level -especially taking into consideration their moronic chief vet, they are a travesty and a disgrace.
So what is left - the KC or a new organisation. A new organisation looks like a good move, but on the other hand, what is the one common theme amongst every single new government database project which our current government has created? They have all been completely incompetent failures from start to finish. So, it seems that unless we want to waste millions in setting up a new organisation, which, if government history is anything to go by will be doomed to ignominious failure from the start, our only alternative is a reformed and effective KC.
Throwing the baby out with the bathwater is never a sensible policy. The KC is flawed, but it is the best we have and the only organisation with the resources and potential to become the organisation we need.
