Re: The DLRC have started a petition

Well I sent the DLRC an email Below,

To whom it may concern,
I am interested to know why you set up this petition regarding giving the KC Legislation to regulate breeding.
Is it because you will go out of business and loose revenue from your puppy farmers and backyard breeders, because good breeders do not breed as a business and they will only register pups with the KC.One of the KC's Regulations is Will not sell any dog to commercial dog wholesalers, retail pet dealers,it's a real shame the DLRC doesn't take the same approach, instead of allowing puppies to be bred by puppy farmers to then be sold on at puppy supermarkets.

I would interested in your response,
Many Thanks,

Their Reponse was,
Hello
No we do not condone or accept puppy farmers in any way, after seeing the BBC documentary i'm surprised you would want the kc in a position of power? their members culling healthy puppies because they are wrong colour or do not have ridges etc: also we do not think 'showing' dogs has any benefit to dogs do you? we have our own accredited breeders programme in place for the new year and we have our own code of ethics.
Do you think the kennel club having a monopoly would help matters?
puppy farmers have registered puppies with the kennel club long before we existed knowingly or not!
Didn't you see the documentary?
Kind regards
Deborah Winters
Co Director

My reply,

In That case could you please explain why puppies with your DLRC Registration are allowed to be sold through pet superstores?
Dogs 4 us been namely one of them ? It is known that puppies sold from that particular establishment are buying from puppy farmers.
You say you have your own code of ethics, maybe you do,Should the above be allowed to continue then,it's all well and good having a code of ethics but I gather you are not able to enforce it so again pretty pointless really wouldn't you say ?

Yes I watched PDE with interest, and had various discussions on dog forums about it,this is why we need to regulate breeding in the UK,for the sake of animal welfare, there are various discussions about the DLRC on Various forums, maybe you could register and answer some of our members questions, but then again questions were asked on dogsey but remain unanswered.

As far as I'm concerned the KC already has the monopoly regarding registrations, they are they only club whose registrations are recognised in other countries,as for showing dogs it has it benefits,it's a fab day out for both dogs and owners and a great way for dogs to socialise with other's.
I take it you are not familar with the KC's code of ethics regarding breeding or puppies which do not conform to breed standard.

Giving the KC legislation is in my opinion the right way to be going, they encourage responsible dog ownership, plough money into research for specific breed tests, give donations to rescues etc, what does the DLRC do ?

I'm actually sorry you don't agree with legislation regarding breeding,it is what's needed in the UK and what breed clubs have been calling for for sometime.
As for your petition I'm sorry I will not be signing it,Aninal Welfare should be a prioirty and when a company endorses the sale of pups from pet superstores welfare is obviously not top priority.
