It is very common for kittens coming into households with exisiting cats to contract something minor. Its like kids going to school for the first time. Every household has minor bugs that their occupants are immune to, but a new addition isn't.

I think you may have hit the nail on the head with the vet being over zealous, and I have now been in contact with his Breeder and I'm feeling much calmer now, she will certainly be my first call in the future.
He's my first ever baby kitten, my other cats I adopted at 6 months old and both were re-homings so I think they had got through the minor bug stage, so its all new to me at the moment.
Chatting on here and to his breeder has really helped me.
