Hi, I do have a bit of experience in this department

eek: If the poo has caked on you can soak it in the sink, but it takes a while to soften and don't forget your rubber gloves. If there is a lot of it however and it has added to over a length of time you will probably pull out most of the hair in that sensitive area trying to tease it out, even once it has softened slightly, not to mention the added stress to your kit of being soaked in the bath for any length of time in the first place. In that case clipping would probably be the kinder option.
You can get your vet to do it for you, which may be advisable if you have never had experience with clippers. Or what I did was order some 'Mini Wahl Clippers' through my vet and did it bit by bit at home. The miniclippers cost about £15 and were brill, but you would definitely need the Wahl make as I have found others to be a waste of money in the past. I wouldnt try doing it with scissors as you could easily snick the skin and the coat will not in any case grow back as evenly as it would through clipping.
Personally I would take your kit into the vet and get them to clip the dodgy areas in one fell swoop to get it over with, sooner you do that, sooner the coat will grow back as long and lovely as it should be. C.x.
