Re: New Kitten

Hi

I got my little Missy when she was 7 wks old after a really bad experience of rescuing a kitten from a reputable centre (got her on the sunday and had to have her put to sleep by thursday - were told she was 6 weeks old but was actually only 4 weeks) any way i saw her with her mum and brothers so i knew she was coming from a good home, the person i got her from told me that they were left all day between 8 and 5, the same hours i work, and were fed 3 times a day - once on a morning, then tea time then later for supper, i was a little concerned by this as i had read that at that age they would need to be fed at least 4 times a day and at that point she was not on dry food, however when i brought her home i stuck to the same routine but after a week started leaving a good quality dry food for her and she absolutely loves i sometimes leaving her wet food and eating all of her dry food. But due to the previous experience i had i would advise to have your kitten have a nurses check at the vets (mine did it for free) just to make sure she / he is generally in good health, i did which put my mind at ease totally as i asked their advice on feeding and told them my routine and they said there was no problem with it. Missy never seems to cry to say she is hungry and she has been back to the vets since her check and is putting on weight and very healthy so i think your best to try to stick with whatever routine the kitten is on with her / his current owner and stik to the same food to avoid upsetting her / his tummy.
i would also say to buy plenty of toys to keep him/her occupied through the day, although Missy tends to sleep throughout the day, i have her locked in the kitchen and then when i get home she has mine and my partners undivided attention and we play with her until she tires herself out.
Hope this helps x
