I've read many times that raw fish should not be fed to cats. I don't know that many cats actually do eat fish in the wild although I think there is one called the "Fishing Cat" isn't there?

QUOTE=ErbslinTrouble;349186]i thought that was cod liver oil... or maybe thiamine but i would have thought that was if you fed it a lot(daily) and nothing else. never heard of not feeding raw fish to cats. do they have special ovens in the wild?

yes, thiaminase destroys thiamine but if you're only feeding raw fish occasionally i don't think you need to worry about it. this is listed as a warning so that raw fish isn't fed regularly or daily. many people assume because of media and here say that cats love milk and fish so then feed them nothing but it! as we savvy in cat all know this is not healthy! the benefits of some of the raw oily fish over weigh the lack of thiamine intake when given occasionally.
