Sorry to hear this - the flu viruses are very common indeed and also very infectious - vaccinations against them aren't very effective, so a cat can easily become infected despite being fully vaccinated, but a vaccinated cat should not become seriously ill. Kittens are particularly vulnerable and often get infected before they've been vaccinated, or they can even get infected as a result of the vaccination in certain cases.
I hope Hugo is well again soon - did he get antibiotics for his chest infection?
