Re: diabetes

I am sorry to hear that .. My old dog Spike had diabeties and once you get it regulated it was fine.

He used to have an injection every day. The vet showed us how to do it (using an orange) and every morning he used to get it in the scruff of his neck - it was awful at first as you feel so guilt but it becomes part of life eventually and after a month of so Spike used to come to look for it so he just got used to it.

You have to be careful as it can lead to other things - Spike went partially blind - his eyes were all cloudy (he was an old dog though so could be a combination of both) and in the end he had problems with his liver and kidneys which was probably a combination of old age and possibly side effects from the insulin

I dont know anything about the cushins but diabeties - whilst not ideal is something that you learn to live with - Spike was diagnosed with it about 4 years before he passed away - he was 12 when we lost him and was a happy dog right until the last month and i when he went it was through old age..

The down side was the cost - Spike wasnt insured and it was about £200 a month i think - mind you we would have remortgaged the house and the 4 years we had extra with him was worth every penny
