Do I go the whole hog and get rid of the crate completely or go and get a bigger crate. Lily is now 16 weeks old and totally house trained (she taps the door with her paw when she wants to go out ).

Hi,
Personally I would recommend continuing with the crate for now, and then around 7/8 months start to slowly increase the amount of time you leave Lily out of her crate when you're not home, and see how she goes.
The reason I say this is because teething really kicks in again around 5/6 months and it would be better to be safe than sorry.
By all means carry on with leaving her out for short spells when you pop out, but have her crated for longer periods when you have to go out.
