Do you train with treats?

My Dog trainer said treats are a no-no as reward for doing well. He believes some affection is all that should be given as if you ever go out without treats you'll struggle.

Now, before this announcement I used to get things when I did well, as well as a good pat or stroke.

However, since we started the 'no treat' regime, my recall has gone to pot and I'm generally not as interested in doing anything. So, for the last three days I've been getting just a few treats when I do well. Not everytime, just often enough to keep me guessing!

So, my question is: Do you train with treats?
