in answer to alls question why would the farmer shoot them well i can only answer from what ive heard down here in Dorset is that the collie is a working dog & if it doesnt work either wont or cant then its of no use to the farmer,so they shoot them!! yep made me feel sick when i first heard this goes on but apparently its common practice all over the uk,all be it a sick one
