There should be no reason wny either sex cannot be neutered well before 6 months. It does seem that many UK vets don't seem to realise this - however "early neutering" has been done in many other countries for the last 30 years or so, with no adverse effects. I'm very lucky in that my vet is happy to neuter my kittens at 12 weeks onwards - I usually have them done at 13-14 weeks. I've done this for over 5 years now with great results - they just recover amazingly quickly and of course the new owner doesn't have to worry about getting it done.
