Hi firstly thanks for your replies.

Duggy is coming up to two years old not two months (sorry should have clarified!)

The crate is never locked at night, it's left unlocked with the door open and she also has another bed in the same room which she usually sleeps on during the day. She just likes going to the crate at night.

It's not the toilet she needs, as we used to go down and open the back door, whilst we'd be doing that she'd sneak upstairs and when we finally track her down she's snuggled under the covers of our bed!
Also she whines when she needs the loo

I think it's purely an attention thing, also I think the light mornings haven't helped much, we don't have blinds in the kitchen and I guess she just assumes if it's light it's time to play.
