Re: Border Collie Pups

Carrie, have you first researched this breed and do you work?

I strongly recommend that you do NOT choose a Bordie Collie unless you will be with them for most of the day. Collies are extremely intelligent with a desperate desire to work. Without stimulation they quickly become bored and this can lead to behavioural problems such as separation anxiety.

Their herding instinct can also lead them to be a little snappy with strangers and children and they are known escape artists.

However, in the right hands, they make wonderful pets. They are loyal companions, but health wise they have a high risk of hip problems. As in a previous post, they are prone to epilepsy.

I should certainly ask around training centres, and veterinary surgery's for recommendations as to the best breeders, and of course the Pets for Homes own website.
