CloudedSkies is on a distinguished road
Chips has had her kittens....

Hello

I posted last week that my cat was due her 2nd litter in the next few days, I was really worried as both of the first litter died with just over a day, and she didnt seem very interested in them.

I went to bed at about 10:45pm last night, and an hour or so later she came up, and was rooting about, and making a noise a bit like a purr, over and over again, and miowing at me a lot, I gave her lots of fuss and had a feeling I knew what was coming!

We had set up a cardboard box in our room a couple of weeks ago, with a hole cut out for her to get in, and the end opened completely but closed too. It had a soft pink baby blanket inside. Shed been in once or twice when we first put it there, but didnt seem impressed! So I was very shocked to see her going in and out of there (But very pleased).

She started leaking some clear fluid, so I knew what was coming, and at 1:28am after only about 10 mins of contracting, (From what I could see anyway!) the first baby was born, a boy, black with little white on tummy and ankles, and looks like he might be fluffy. She cleaned him and herself up, ate the placenta almost immediately and they lay down for a bit, before contracting again and having kitten number 2 at 2:40am, a grey and silve tabby girl with the most gorgeous dquished face. Again she cleaned her up and ate the placenta and after a lot more cleaning, snuggled down to feed them.

I thought she might be having number 3 about an hour later, but it appears to be just the 2. So I eventually went to sleep.

The box is straight facing our bed, so I kept looking over!

This morning they all looked well, but we still werent sure if there was 2 or 3, she came downstairs for some breakfast so we quickly weighed the kittens and checked the sex (hubby is very good at the sexing of kittens!) The boy weighed 112g, and the girl 114g. I've not checked yet, but I am guessing this is good? As when we weighed our last 2 the day after they were born, they were only 72 and 74g. These ones look SO much bigger.

I keep checking in, but have left Mum to it. We changed the blanket when she came out breifly as it was a bit mucky. She seems to be feeding them a lot, and they make the occaisional squeak, but not a lot of noise, is this ok? The last 2 were always crying. Chips occaisionally comes out and lays just by the box, normally when the babes are sleeping, but other than that she has barely left their side.

I am so relieved (god hope im not jinxing it) as by this point with the last litter she was spending very little time with them and ignoring them when they cried.

My brother-in-law and his girlfried want one, they wanted a girl, and we are going to keep the little boy

I tried to get a pic earlier but its just a mass of fur! So I will try again later, I dont want to bother her too much, though she seems very greatful of a head rub and little fuss when I go up!

Thanks for all your advice on my last couple of posts
