Aww bless him! I am so glad you got it all sorted, poor little Toby.
I had a scare with Foxy a few weeks ago, her stomach kept making really odd noises then she would keep on trying to be sick, but all she'd bring up was a liquid. It sounded as though she was trying to bring something up that she shouldn't have swallowed. This went on a good few times. I put her to bed and if she was still like it in the morning she was going to a vet (one that opened on Sundays lol). When I woke up to take her outside I found this long brown gooey stringy thing at the bottom of her crate.... whatever she had swallowed had passed through her during the night!

I think it eventually came out of her bottom, not her mouth. Thank God... and she was back to normal. I think it may have been a bit of the fabric/rope/string from one of them tug of war toys? I was at my bf's at the time and left her unattended with him (bad idea) and he left her alone with her tug of war toy. I'm EVEN more cautious now.
