Its a common problem with Persians and other cats with more prominent eyeballs. You can get proprietory cleaners to get rid of the tear stains, but I don't know how effective they are. Otherwise regular wiping of the eyes is a must with this breed, and if Purdy has problems with the tears matting the fur under the eye it may be worth clipping the fur around this area.
